Filip Hrgovic is in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, gearing up for his fight against Daniel Dubois on Saturday. The unbeaten Croatian boxer, who spoke with IFL TV, confidently declared that “this should be my year.” Currently holding a record of 17-0 with 14 knockouts, the 31-year-old Hrgovic believes this is the year he will finally secure a shot at a world championship.

Hrgovic is brimming with confidence as he anticipates a victory over Dubois. He has already mapped out his future plans, stating, “After I beat Dubois, I’ll smash [Anthony] Joshua and then fight the winner of the Oleksandr Usyk-Tyson Fury rematch,” which has been announced for December 21st. Following these ambitious bouts, Hrgovic plans to retire from boxing.

Hrgovic’s confidence in his abilities is palpable. He said, “I think I’m quicker, I’m a better puncher, and I think I have a better IQ in the ring, more experience. I think I have more advantages but he’s also a good fighter, he has good power, a lot of knockouts, so I should be careful. It will be a good fight. Hopefully, this should be my year.”

As the IBF mandatory contender for almost four years, Hrgovic’s opportunity for a title shot is long overdue. There was speculation that the Hrgovic-Dubois fight might be for the IBF heavyweight title, especially after Oleksandr Usyk was stripped of the belt for taking the rematch with Fury instead of defending against Hrgovic. However, Saturday’s fight remains a non-title bout. Despite this, it’s a significant fight that Hrgovic cannot afford to lose.

Daniel Dubois, with a record of 20-2 and 19 knockouts, is known for his powerful punches. Hrgovic acknowledges Dubois’s strengths but remains the favorite to win. A victory over Dubois would likely set up a high-profile fight against Anthony Joshua at Wembley. Should Hrgovic win that bout, he would be two-thirds of the way through his ambitious plan, but it might take some time before he gets a shot at the Usyk-Fury winner.

For now, Hrgovic is focusing solely on Dubois. The question remains: can Hrgovic defeat Dubois on Saturday, or will the younger Dubois derail Hrgovic’s grand plans?
