Keith Olbermann is pissed off at the St. Louis Cardinals for what they apparently did in the game against the Atlanta Braves.
After Alec Burleson’s solo home run in the third inning against the Atlanta Braves, the game broadcast showed the right fielder with his hand over his ear and raising his right arm while rounding third base.
At the time time, some of his teammates could be seen holding their fists in the air.
The following inning, Cardinals star Lars Nootbaar homered mimicked grabbing his ear and then raising his fist upward.
Many on social media, including Keith Olbermann, claimed the gestures looked similar to how the former president reacted after being led off the rally stage following a failed assassination attempt.
Former ESPN host Keith Olbermann took to his X account and stated how he wanted the players banned from the MLB, and he called them “nazis.”
“Attn @mlb ban these guys from baseball for life, confiscate the @Cardinals franchise, and implode the stadium Cardinals = Trump Nazis Stick to sports (expletive) THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS America has had enough of this (expletive),” he wrote on social media.
The raised fist has also been known to represent the Black Lives Matter movement but has certainly had a change of meaning following that assassination attempt. A photograph of the moment went viral on social media.
Keith Olbermann should’ve waited until he got more information about what the Cardinals’ players were doing because his anger was grossly misplaced.
Cardinals Players Respond To Major Backlash From Keith Olbermann And Others Over Apparent Trump Celebration
Political commentator Keith Olbermann was one of thousands who berated the Cardinals for their celebrations, which seemed to mimic what Donald Trump did at a rally in Pennsylvania.
Trump, after being shot at during a rally in Pennsylvania by a would-be assassin, raised a fist and yelled “fight” to his audience.
Players from the Cardinals seemingly did his fist raise during a game, but it turns out that everything was a complete misunderstanding.
The Cardinals told The Athletic that their celebration had no political message.
Matt Carpenter told the outlet that Burleson is a former college DJ and that the celebration is an inside joke among players.
“He’s been carrying us at the plate,” Carpenter said. “(The celebration) is the furthest thing from a political statement.”
It’s an inside joke with (Burleson),” he added. “This isn’t a political statement by any means. I don’t know where that came from.”
