5. China ‘s Liaoning aircraft carrier

The Liaoning is the only active aircraft carrier of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) and the fifth largest aircraft carrier in the world. It was originally designed to be the second Kuznetsov for the Soviet Navy but it was acquired by China after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.

With a full load displacement of 97,000 tons, this 1,150-foot-long aircraft carrier can carry more than 60 aircraft. These Nimitz-class ships can accommodate 3,000 to 3,200 ship squadrons, 1,500 aircraft, and a crew of 500. It is powered by two nuclear reactors and can reach speeds of over 30 knots.

Gerald R Ford will be fully operational in 2020, with a full load displacement of 100,000 tons and a 78m wide flight deck with an electromagnetic aircraft launch system as well as advanced arresting equipment. USS Gerald R. Ford is capable of carrying more than 75 aircraft and can accommodate a total of 4,539 people.
