Today a new report has come out from NHL insider Chris Johnston that has shed major light on recent trade rumors involving Edmonton Oilers star Leon Draisaitl.
Since being eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs the Edmonton Oilers have undergone a lot of change. First General Manager Ken Holland stepped down, then the team traded third line center Ryan McLeod to the Buffalo Sabres, and now the future of Leon Draisaitl is uncertain.
With new General Manager Jeff Jackson coming in to take over he has several big tasks ahead of him. The first of which is a contract extension for superstar Leon Draisaitl. After a disappointing Stanley Cup Finals run Leon Draisaitl was asked about his future in Edmonton as he heads into the final year of his contract.

In a new segment, insider Chris Johnston was asked about the Leon Draisaitl rumors, particularly rumors connecting the superstar center to the San Jose Sharks. When asked the question Chris Johnston denied that the San Jose Sharks will be trading for Leon Draisaitl.

This answer has sparked a conversation regarding Leon Draisaitl’s future with the Edmonton Oilers. Chris Johnston denied a trade to the San Jose Sharks for Leon Draisaitl but not the idea of a trade being possible altogether.
Now fans and media will have to be on high alert over the next couple of weeks as this situation develops. Leon Draisaitl is still likely to sign in Edmonton but the longer an extension takes the more a trade becomes a reality.
