Zion Williamson has heard the fat jokes for years now, and he has finally taken action to stop them.
The league may not be ready for the new and improved Williamson.
The No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft had lofty expectations that he has yet to meet, and although he has been a great scorer, his health and discipline have been concerns since entering the league.
Williamson is listed at 284 pounds, but that is no longer the case after he has trimmed his weight, heading into year six.
Zion Williamson showed off his new look at his basketball camp, and the results are eye-opening.
Williamson posed for a photo with two kids at his basketball camp in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Injuries have limited Zion Williamson’s action as an NBA player, but now it seems he may have found a way to combat that by dropping significant weight.
Williamson is coming off a season where he played the most games.
He only missed 12 games, as opposed to 53 the year before. Unfortunately, the injuries came back at the wrong time, as he ended up missing time once the playoffs came around, and the team got eliminated as a result.
Zion Williamson’s Contract With The Pelicans Is Not Guaranteed For The Last Three Years
Zion Williamson is the franchise player for the Pelicans despite his constant injuries.
When Zion signed his five-year rookie max extension in July 2022, it was announced as a $193 million contract.
Christian Clark at NOLA.com dove deep into the language and found out the last three years of his deal are no longer guaranteed due to his limited availability during the 2022-2023 season.
He would miss 29 regular-season contests, and that absence would trigger a clause in the deal that stated missing more than 22 games converted the salary he was owed in the 2025–26, 2026–27, and 2027–28 seasons into non-guaranteed money.
