The Philadelphia Eagles have made a surprising trade this week, acquiring wide receiver Jahan Dotson from the Washington Commanders in a rare inter-divisional exchange.

Dotson joins the Eagles as their No. 3 WR option and will hope to contribute alongside A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, who recently earned long-term contracts.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Philadelphia negotiated the deal with an offer of a 2025 third-round pick and two 2025 seventh-round picks. In addition to Dotson, they will receive a 2025 fifth-round pick.

The Eagles offense now looks more robust, with quarterback Jalen Hurts seeing another weapon come in. Apart from the wideouts mentioned above, running back Saquon Barkley and tight end Dallas Goedert will also be a handful.

Veterans Parris Campbell and Brian Covey rotated with rookie Johnny Wilson at WR3 in training camp this summer, but Dotson is expected to make the position his after registering 49 catches for 518 yards and four touchdowns for Washington last season.

Jahan Dotson Hasn’t Lived Up To Expectations In The NFL

Jahan Dotson was drafted as the 16th overall pick by the Commanders in 2022, with the team trading back five spots to get him. However, he hasn’t quite lived up to expectations.

In 29 games, he’s caught a career total of 84 passes for 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns, failing to establish himself as WR2 alongside Terry McLaurin this summer. He also had the 10th-highest drop rate in the NFL last season at 7.4 percent.

The 24-year-old was experimented with in multiple spots under new head coach Dan Quinn this offseason but was thought to be best operating from the slot.

Time will tell whether playing in a different environment with a new quarterback can aid him in realizing his full potential, bu the Eagles clearly feel it’s a worthwhile gamble.
