“We Play Like Our Life Depends on It”- Jaylen Brown Insights on Tactical Approach Against Mavs’ Comeback in Game 5

The Celtics had a chance to clinch their 18th NBA title but things went haywire on Friday night. After being dismantled by the Mavs in a 84-122 loss, Jaylen Brown and his mates were the targets of sharp media scrutiny.

During the post-game press conference, Jaylen Brown was asked about what he’ll say to his teammates going into a potential series decider in game 5. In response Brown highlighted the importance of learning from it. “We have to play like our lives depend on it, because it does,” added the guard.

After his masterful performance in game 3, he was far from his best on Friday night. He managed to record only 10 points with an awful 25% shooting from the field. His teammates were no better as only Jayson Tatum managed to get to 15 points for Joe Mazzulla’s men.

The manner of the defeat raised a lot of questions over their lackluster showing in Dallas. Among other things addressed during the post-game presser, he also identified the key reason for their defeat.

Jaylen Brown Highlights Key Reason for Defeat

The Celtics came out of the blocks swiftly in the first 6 minutes of the game. A lot of shot attempts were made by Jaylen Brown and Co. but soon the Mavs took over and refused to relinquish the control of the game.

 

Pointing out the key aspect where he and his team lacked, Brown said, “Give credit to Dallas. I think they play hard physically. And then they dominated the glass. I think that was the key that put a lot of pressure on us.”


Rebounding was indeed a major problem in the Cs game on Friday as they were well behind in that category(31-52). Dereck Lively II cleaned the board game-high 12 times, compared to only 5 of Tatum who led in rebounding for Celtics.

On Monday they’ll have a chance to put things right but there will be weight of expectations on them at home court. This will be a proper test for the Celtics’ championship mettle.
