Today several sources have confirmed that the Vancouver Canucks have agreed to a huge extension keeping Filip Hronek with the team for 8 years.
The Vancouver Canucks had been in negotiations with defenseman Filip Hronek since their elimination from the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Today the Canucks and their restricted free agent came to an agreement on an 8-year extension according to insider Frank Seravalli.
#Canucks have signed D Filip Hronek to an eight-year, $58 million extension: 8 years x $7.25 million.
Big piece of business done.
General Manager Patrik Allvin announces that the #Canucks have agreed to terms with defenceman Filip Hronek on an 8-year contract with a $7.25M AAV.
Filip Hronek was acquired in a trade with the Detroit Red Wings last season and spent much of this season on a pair with Quinn Hughes. The success that Quinn Hughes had while alongside Filip Hronek likely played a major role in this decision.
Maybe a little rich for my blood given I rate Filip Hronek as a true-talent No. 3 or 4, but certainly not egregiously so. He also seems like a uniquely good fit alongside Quinn Hughes, which is worth paying for.
The Vancouver Canucks now head into the 2024-25 NHL season with many of their core pieces locked up long-term and the ability to add to it through free agency. As more moves are made by the Vancouver Canucks and other teams we will continue to update you.
