Although All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s season ended prematurely because of an injury, the upcoming campaign may see the Greek Freak come back with a vengeance. Of course, winning the MVP may be in the conversation in an interesting prediction for the Milwaukee Bucks star.

Antetokounmpo’s NBA journey began in 2013 when the Bucks selected him as the 15th overall pick. Although his rookie season was marked by limited playing time, his raw potential was undeniable.

Over the years, his progress soared. In 2017, he earned the Most Improved Player award, showcasing averages of 22.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game. Cementing his status as one of the league’s premier athletes, the Greek Freak secured consecutive MVP awards in 2019 and 2020.

The pinnacle of his career came in 2021 when he led the Bucks to a championship triumph against the Phoenix Suns. Despite subsequent playoff setbacks, Antetokounmpo remains the franchise’s best player, evident in his career averages of 23.4 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.1 assists, and 1.9 blocks per contest.

In the 2023-24 season, Milwaukee’s franchise star continued to rewrite the record books. He signed a three-year, $186 million extension with the Bucks and set several individual milestones, including a career-high 64-point performance. However, his season was cut short due to a calf injury, leading him to miss the remainder of the regular season and the 2024 NBA playoffs.

Putting his injury aside, there’s no denying how great the Greek Freak’s performance were last season. In a Bleacher Report article, Andy Bailey dropped an MVP-related prediction for Antetokounmpo.

“Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Milwaukee Bucks were eliminated in the first round of the 2024 playoffs, but he missed every game with a calf injury.

He certainly deserves (and will likely get) a pass for that quick exit. And it might even fuel him to attack the 2024-25 regular season with even more passion.

Already one of the best competitors in the league, Giannis averaged 30.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks in 2023-24.

And after significantly reducing his jump-shooting diet, he was arguably the league’s most efficient scorer.

At 29 years old, Giannis is likely to come back every bit as dominant in 2024-25. And if a full offseason of schematic implementation for new coach Doc Rivers helps the Bucks get back near the top of the East, he could secure a third MVP,” Bailey wrote.

Even with all the challenges, the Greek forward managed to drop impressive numbers last season. During that campaign, the team underwent a coaching change and the team’s defense suffered due to veteran guard Jrue Holiday being traded away.

With Antetokounmpo projected to return healthy, the Bucks may be among the few teams to challenge Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics in the East. If that happens, expect Milwaukee’s number one option to be in the MVP conversation soon.
