The Dallas Cowboys have enough on their plate, having to pay three top performers on the team, and now they have to deal with losing defensive end Sam Williams.
Williams had to leave Sunday’s training camp practice on a cart after suffering what appeared to be a leg injury.
It did not look or feel good, and the news later was even worse.
After undergoing further testing, an MRI confirmed Williams tore his ACL, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
He will now miss the entire 2024 season.
Sam Williams was reportedly participating in special teams drills when he went down with the injury.
While perennial Pro Bowler Micah Parsons leads the Cowboys’ pass rush, Williams is considered a vital member of the rotation.
A second-round draft pick out of Ole Miss in 2022, the 25-year-old has posted 8.5 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, and 16 quarterback hits in 32 games across his first two NFL seasons, per ESPN.com.
The 2022 second-round pick of the Cowboys was set to enter his third NFL season.
It’s been a rocky start to training camp for the Cowboys, who are in the process of negotiating long-term contracts with CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, and Dak Prescott.
Sam Williams Had Potential For Bigger Role On Dallas Cowboys Defense Before Injury
Sam Williams was on tap to having a good season that would’ve seen his playing time increase after the departure of Dorance Armstrong and Dante Fowler.
Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence are still on the line, but not having a lot of established depth behind them would’ve opened a huge door for Williams to see a bigger role in 2024.
