Newly crowned Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz was full of praise for Novak Djokovic after the Serbian’s incredible recovery from knee surgery. Djokovic recovered from a meniscus tear he sustained at Roland Garros to be fit for Wimbledon.

Alcaraz was speaking in his post-match interview after his straight-set win over the Serbian in the Wimbledon final. It was the second successive time he had gotten the better of the former World No. 1 at the All-England Club.

Well I still believe Novak is Superman. What he’s done in this tournament with a surgery just a few weeks before the tournament began is amazing. It’s unbelievable. As I said on court, I was talking with my team that the work he’s done has been unbelievable. He gave himself a chance to be able to play in the tournament. Making the final is something out of this world for me. I beat him today. But for me, Novak is still Superman.

Carlos Alcaraz said in his post-match press conference

Djokovic endured a meniscus tear in his fourth-round match at Roland Garros against Francisco Cerundolo. He withdrew from his quarterfinal match and underwent knee surgery. However, the former World No. 1 became fit in time to be available for the men’s singles draw two weeks ago.

Alcaraz and Djokovic traded a few practice sets before their first-round matches at Wimbledon and also before their final on Sunday. The Serbian played the entire Wimbledon campaign with a strapping on his knee, which was under the spotlight since his recovery.

Is Carlos Alcaraz better than the Big 3 after Wimbledon win?

Carlos Alcaraz is breaking Grand Slam records faster than Roger FedererRafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. He won his fourth major title at 21 by beating Djokovic in the Wimbledon final. Neither Federer, Nadal nor the Serbian won four Slams at such a young age. Djokovic won his fourth at 24, Nadal at 22, and Federer at 23.

Alcaraz achieved this milestone in fewer Grand Slam matches. He needed only 69 matches to win his fourth major. In comparison, Federer needed 79, Nadal 81, and Djokovic 134 matches. Alcaraz’s win rate at the majors is 85.5%, which is higher than Nadal’s 84%, Djokovic’s 82.1%, and Federer’s 77.2%.

Alcaraz has won his first four Grand Slam finals. He is only the second player in the Open Era to do so, after Federer, who won his first seven major finals. Additionally, the World No.3 is the sixth man in the Open Era to win both Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year. He joins legends like Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic.
