With the 2024 NFL regular season less than three weeks away now, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is running out of time to deliver on his “all-in” he uttered promise in January.
After the Green Bay Packers eliminated the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round, Jones stated that his team would have an “all-in” approach to the offseason, per the team’s official website.
But here we are in August, and Jones hasn’t made one blockbuster trade nor big splash in free agency. On top of that, he has yet to extend Dak Prescott (contract year), CeeDee Lamb (contract year) or Micah Parsons (eligible for an extension this offseason).
The good news for Jones is that plenty of quality players around the league will be available for the right price. Though Dallas has enough talent on both sides of the ball to field a top-five defense, it’s especially imperative for Jones to address his lackluster running back room.
That’s where the rebuilding Denver Broncos come into play.
The Broncos moved on from starting quarterback Russell Wilson, All-Pro safety Justin Simmons and No. 1 wide receiver Jerry Jeudy this offseason. So why wouldn’t GM George Paton be open to moving his top running back in Javonte Williams, who has yet to break out following a promising 2021 rookie campaign?
Dallas can’t rely on a 29-year-old Ezekiel Elliott to be their lead running back this year. Williams showed signs of stardom in 2021 by posting 903 rushing yards, but he missed all but four games in 2022 and tallied only 774 yards in 16 games the following year.
Put Javonte Williams behind one of the league’s best offensive lines, and he just might emerge as the next 1,000-yard rusher in Big D.
What Dallas Cowboys Should Offer For Javonte Williams
With Williams entering the final year of his contract, he shouldn’t cost much in a trade. This team gave away Jeudy (a former first-round pick) to the Cleveland Browns for two late-round picks after all.
Dallas should offer a 2025 fifth-round pick to the Broncos for Williams. It’s a fair price for a talented RB who has yet to put it all together but still capable of emerging as a Pro Bowler if he stays healthy.
