Nate Diaz Denies He Was Hurt By Jake Paul

The Former UFC Star Said He Went On A Bender Before The Fight

Jake Paul has openly mocked Diaz’s performance in their boxing match, calling him the weakest puncher he has ever faced. In a recent interview with ESPN, Diaz offered some surprising explanations for his underwhelming performance.

“I was injured and couldn’t really throw a punch,” Diaz revealed. “I was f—ed up. And for two, he was the easiest fight I ever had. That was the longest fight at the heaviest weight class I ever had. Never got tired. Never got hurt. Nothing.”

Diaz downplayed the knockdown he suffered, attributing it to poor timing rather than Paul’s strength. “Even when I got knocked down, I think it was timing because it didn’t hurt. I got up like ‘You good?’ ‘Oh, I’m fine.’ I was just a timing thing, you know. I thought he was pretty weak himself.”

Despite never capturing a UFC title, Nate Diaz has defeated former champions during his career.

There have been conflicting reports regarding Diaz’s injury during the Paul fight, with some suggesting a shoulder issue and others citing a pinched back nerve.

Diaz also shared new details about his preparation for that bout, admitting to a less-than-ideal training regimen.

“I went on a four-week bender before the fight. We trained hard for months on months and we were over it, me and my whole team. So I sat back and started kicking it. I was over training.”

Reflecting on his approach to the Paul fight, Diaz stated, “If it was a scary opponent, you wouldn’t allow yourself to do that. But it was just easy to go to sleep at night fighting that guy. But it was good that it happened like that because now it’s necessary to work out, get disciplined, and go back and whip his ass.”

Diaz questioned Paul’s criticism, saying, “I’m the weakest puncher, and you’re the one that wanted to fight 30 pounds over my original weight division? You think I was just trying to sit there and just knock you out? Like throw as hard of punches as I can? I was just getting through that fight because I was halfway to my potential that day.”

As for his preparation for the upcoming Masvidal fight, Diaz is confident. “A lot better than the last fight, that’s for damn sure!” he exclaimed.

Diaz did not reveal whether he plans to return to MMA or continue with boxing. However, he shared his interest in the trilogy fight against Conor McGregor in an MMA fight.

The highly anticipated Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal fight, dubbed “Last Man Standing,” will take place on Saturday, July 6th, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
