Mike Tyson has been asked a lot of questions about whether he could’ve triumphed over certain athletes from the new era of boxing like Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, and even Oleksandr Usyk, however, a name that always pops up is Conor McGregor.

Mike Tyson made headlines when he announced he’d be Jake Paul’s new rival, but as soon as the announcement that the match that they initially thought as an exhibition bout was to be considered a professional fight, the public became more interested as the legend’s professional record would be impacted if he lost.

While the fight that was set to happen on July 20th has been postponed, we took a trip down memory lane to the time that Mike Tyson was so confident that the “Notorious MMA” would not hold his ground against the heavyweight legend.

Tyson appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in 2020, and while in the guest seat, Tyson was asked about a potential future matchup with the Irishman, and he answered as you’d expect.

“Yeah, but I’m gonna kick his ass anyway,” Tyson told Fallon, who described McGregor as ‘nuts.’ After the answer, Fallon added that McGregor ‘doesn’t play by the rules.’ But Tyson cooly replied: “Hey, we’re going to play by boxing rules”

Months later, Tyson fought fellow former heavyweight boxer Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition match in the Staples Center, Los Angeles.

While the Irishman made his bones in the octagon, the overconfident athlete also managed to set up an exhibition fight against none other than Floyd Mayweather Jr. where he lost terribly as he did not prepare for the onslaught that “Money” had prepared for him inside the ring.

The overconfidence of the Irishman came after becoming the first ever two-weight UFC world champion (featherweight and lightweight), but while facing the five-division boxing champion Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas, he did not stand a chance.
