Jake Paul and Mike Tyson’s boxing match was scheduled to take place on July 20. However, those plans were changed after the boxing legend suffered an ulcer flare-up during a flight.

As a result the fight was delayed to November 15. The thought was that the delay would give Tyson the necessary time to recover his full-time training for the fight.

However, ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ has yet to return to full training, and having recently turned 58, there are doubts over whether his body will recover in time to allow him to step into the ring.

Paul looking at alternatives

As a result Paul is looking at other fighters to step into the ring with him at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

One name mentioned as a replacement for Tyson, according to WBN, is a man who stepped into the ring with Canelo Alvarez back in 2017: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

That fight didn’t go to plan for Cesar Chavez Jr., as Canelo dominated the encounter. Chavez Jr. is already scheduled to feature on Paul’s next two undercards, with rumors suggesting he will step up should Tyson be unable to return from his stomach ulcer.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation continues to keep a close eye on the status of the Paul-Tyson fight. Spokesperson Tela Mange insists the fight is still slated to be a professional fight and that Tyson remains a licensed professional.

It’s also possible that the fight may be scrapped or downgraded to an exhibition with modified rules, like Paul being unable to hit Tyson below the torso due to his ailment.

There are several factors working in Chavez Jr’s favor, like his family and title history, though his career has hit a road block since losing to Canelo.

However, the fact that the fight earned over one million sales on PPV justified it going forward. Unfortunately for Chavez Jr., things haven’t gone to plan for him outside of the ring since then, having spent time in hospital due to his mental well-being.
