The Chicago Bulls and OKC Thunder recently engaged in a player swap that involved the young star Josh Giddey. The point guard was traded to the former franchise in return for Alex Caruso. However, moving to the Bulls was difficult for Josh as he penned an emotional farewell post for his now-former team.

Following the official announcement, Giddey wrote a beautiful farewell message on his Instagram handle. In the caption, he expressed his gratitude toward every franchise member, expressed what OKC meant to him, and ended the letter with a white heart.

I am forever grateful. My brothers, who I got to share the floor with for 3 years. the best group of guys I could’ve imagined. Stuck with me through the very high highs & the very low lows. You guys know the real me. I am forever in debt to Oklahoma and no words will do justice to how much the city & the organization mean to me and my family. 🤍”

Giddey has often termed the Thunder as his home. He expressed his desire to stay longer in his final interview and almost had an emotional breakdown. Despite his attachment to the organization, it’s safe to say that he would be comparatively a better fit for the Bulls.

Josh Giddey’s Career at OKC

Josh Giddey started his journey in the NBA three years ago in the 2021 Draft as the sixth overall pick by the Thunder. The guard showed off his excellence from an early stage, which gave him hope for his bright future. In his first season, the 21-year-old averaged 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6.4 assists while shooting at 41.9% from the floor.

The Australian had a more impressive season in 2022-2023, averaging 16.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists while shooting at 48.2%. However, his numbers dropped in the following season.

Giddey mastered a ball-handling role, but in OKC, he had to do the opposite. Struggling to show his potential in an off-ball role, he frequently came off the bench. Though he appeared in 80 games for the OKC this season, his on-court time lessened. Instead, Jalen Williams had a bigger role to play in the team. Giddey finished the season with averages of 12.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists.

With Lonzo Ball’s situation not confirmed yet, Giddey could get more opportunities to flourish in the Chicago colors next season.
