The offseason has seen many NBA rumors surrounding Knicks center Mitchell Robinson. One player who many watched closely as a possible trade candidate was him going into the 2024 NBA Draft.

Mitchell Robinson stayed with the New York Knicks as the draft approached and passed. But trade whispers continued after the team’s huge deal to acquire Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets was made public.

An old video of Mitchell Robinson’s NBA summer league highlights was shared on Tuesday by X user @IQfor3. A fan brought up the thought that he seemed to have lost some of his athleticism over time. “I know he had to bulk up to guard bigs better but mannnn he used to move so crazy,” the fan wrote.

Robinson disapproved of the post a day later and promised to return to form. “Ima be just like this season watch!!! Ima be lean and give more you bitches gone respect me,” he said on Snapchat

Robinson’s frustration with a lack of respect is understandable. Despite battling injuries, he’s established himself as a defensive anchor for the Knicks. His tireless effort, fierce rebounding, and exceptional shot-blocking have strengthened the Knicks’ defense. Nonetheless, critics call attention to his narrow offensive skill set and advise him to expand it.

Mitchell Robinson made an impact despite injury concerns

Mitchell Robinson is a top NBA rim protector and rebounder. He is also known to be prone to injuries, which limits his availability and ultimately hurts his team.

Before he hurt his foot, Robinson made a compelling case to be named to the All-Defense team. Until his injury, Robinson led the league in offensive rebounds with an average of 10.3 rebounds per game.

Since C Isaiah Hartenstein left for the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Knicks will need their longest-tenured player to remain healthy next season. Robinson’s entire season might help the Knicks win an NBA Championship next season.
