Kyrie Irving, Dallas Mavericks

In February 2023, Nobody believed that the Dallas Mavericks’ trade for Kyrie Irving would be successful. From receiving a trade grade of D to reaching the NBA Finals, it’s clear that the trade turned out to be a success. While the opinions of the NBA fans may have changed, the

statements regarding the Mavericks guard still remain a topic of debate as he proved everyone wrong.

An account called Basketball Forever was posted on X (Formerly known as Twitter) in February 2023, saying that “Kyrie Irving hasn’t had much success since leaving LeBron James.” In the comment section, Irving replied, “Pin this Tweet and see what happens in the next few years.”

A fan also commented, “Trading away your best defender and Spencer Dinwiddie for a ‘better’ Spencer Dinwiddie is crazy.” Meanwhile, another fan criticized the Mavericks’ decision regarding the duo of Luka Doncic and Irving, saying, “I give Kyrie a month, and he will become disgruntled. This Luka and Kyrie combo will never work. The Mavs got weaker on the defensive end and have zero rim protection.”

Dynamic Duo Doncic and Irving Proved Fans Wrong

Despite the initial doubts, Irving’s performance proved the haters wrong. The dynamic duo of Doncic and Irving played a crucial role in the success of the Mavericks. Following the trade in March 2023, Irving scored an impressive 40 points against the Philadelphia 76ers, while Doncic also contributed 42 points in the same game. This marked the first time in Mavericks history that two players scored 40 points in the same game.

After losing the first game of the NBA finals series against the Boston Celtics, Kyrie Irving praised Jaylen Brown, the Eastern Conference MVP of the current season, for his outstanding performance that amazed everyone.
