WNBA fans were looking forward to the rematch between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark but at this point, everyone knew instead of talking about the game, people would fight over a controversy and Robert Griffin III fears its painting a bad picture of the sport. Two players whom young girls should look up to as role models are creating pointless chatter that doesn’t belong on the court.

Griffin has long been an advocate of the women’s game. The retired NFL quarterback turned analyst and podcast host constantly tries to attract attention on social media about the injustice Reese and Clark have had to face since becoming professional players.

On Sunday, Griffin shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the media are trying to inject race into the game, which doesn’t benefit the sport.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are being used in a race war and it’s not fair to either of the athlete or the game of Basketball.

Robert Griffin III wrote

He posted the statement following a social media calling for blood against Reese for a flagrant foul on Clark midway through the game. As the Indiana Fever player rose to score a dunk, Reese tailed her to splat the ball away from her grasp.

However, the Chicago Sky’s ace completely mistimed her jump and hit Caitlin Clark on the side of her head. The referee deemed it a flagrant one-foul.

Clark endured a flagrant two-foul from Chennedy Carter the last time these two teams met. Carter refused to call it an illegal play and blamed the Iowa graduate for being too soft.

Angel Reese makes matters worse with her comments after the game

The Reese and Clark rivalry was the talk of college basketball last season. After the LSU graduate got the better of Clark in 2022, she got her revenge by beating her in the 2023 postseason.

Even though that fiery competitiveness between the two athletes remains, the attitude has seen a massive change. It has become more personal than professional or as Griffin would say, media has created a narrative and is running a marathon.

Sunday’s game ended on the same note as it had begun, sour. Following the Fever’s 91-83 win, Reese poured more gas into the fire, blaming the referees for favoritism.

I think we went up really strong a lot of times and we didn’t get a lot of calls. Going back and looking at the film I’ve seen a lot of calls that weren’t made. I guess some people got a special whistle.

Angel Reese complained after the game

A few on social media deciphered that Reese attempted to hint that Sky players did not receive clear fouls while her foul on Clark was unrightfully judged as flagrant. Regardless, this feud between the players is bringing in more views than the sport has ever witnessed, but on the other hand, it also paints it in a bad light for the neutrals.
