Trae Young and Dejounte Murray trade rumor

The Atlanta Hawks’ deal with their star point guards, Trae Young and Dejounte Murray, is not going well. Despite being All-Star caliber players, their on-court chemistry has not yielded the expected results. As the Hawks secure the first overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, reports suggest they are considering moving on from Young and Murray.

NBA insider Bill Simmons recently discussed this potential roster shake-up on his podcast, revealing that sources have informed him of the Hawks’ plans to trade both players this offseason.

Some people seem to think both of those guys are getting traded is a thing I’ve heard…From different people that don’t know each other, who know things, [they said that the Hawks are] just like, ‘You know what, we’ve got the number one pick, this didn’t work, we got to the Conference Finals that one time, let’s just try to blow this up,” Simmons said.

The Hawks’ aggressive acquisition of Dejounte Murray in 2022, which involved trading three future first-round picks and a pick swap to the San Antonio Spurs, clearly indicated their intent to build a competitive team around Young. However, the combination has not brought the desired success. Hence, the front office is now contemplating a significant overhaul.

With the number one pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the Hawks have a unique opportunity to reshape their roster. Trading Young and Murray could provide the team the flexibility to acquire new talent and address other needs on the court.

Bill Simmons Proposes a Bold Trade for Trae Young

Trae Young has already garnered attention regarding his potential trade with the Miami Heat.

In a recent episode of his podcast, Bill Simmons fueled the buzz. Simmons suggested that the Hawks could trade Trae Young to the Heat in exchange for guard Tyler Herro, forward Duncan Robinson, and multiple draft picks.

But this is my favorite, Trae for Herro and [Duncan] Robinson and Miami’s pick in the draft. They’ll have to draft the guy and then trade him. And then their 2029 is unprotected first, and that’s the trade,” Simmons said.

This trade would give the Hawks a talented young guard in Herro, a sharpshooter in Robinson, and valuable draft assets to help rebuild their roster.

Now, all eyes are on the Hawks to know their ultimate decision after seeing Young’s performance this season. The Hawks star averaged 25.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 10.8 assists on 43 percent shooting in 54 appearances this season.
