NBA: Playoffs-Golden State Warriors at Sacramento KingsKlay Thompson not prioritized to his liking by Warriors brass: Report

Klay Thompson is a legend with the Golden State Warriors, after winning four championships and being one-half of the most prolific shooting backcourts in NBA history alongside Stephen Curry Thompson’s legacy with the Warriors, which has been cemented through his efficient scoring, and terrific defense, made him one of the most recognizable stars of the franchise.

Thompson will be entering free agency this offseason. While picturing him playing against Golden State would take a lot of getting used to, Thompson’s future with his longtime team has been uncertain, especially with reports of him not being as satisfied with the Warriors’ treatment as before.

According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Thompson has not appeared to be a priority for the Warriors.

“Klay Thompson is Klay Thompson. He has pride in what he’s built with the #Warriors, who he is in the league, what his statistical resume still says he is. And I think it’s fair like, you want to be prioritized [if you are Klay]” said Slater intheMorning Roast radio show.

Thompson is an unrestricted free agent come the summer, meaning that any team can offer him as much money as possible to lure him out of Golden State.

There were negotiations between Thompson and the Warriors during the season for an extension but the talks failed to reach an agreement.

This will be Thompson’s first free agency in five years, and perhaps his final long-term contract as he will turn 35 years old next season.

Widely regarded as one of the NBA’s all-time greatest shooters, Thompson remains a threat to shoot from the three-point line, as he finished with the eighth most three-pointers made this season while averaging 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists, in 43.2% shooting from the field, and 38.7% from the three-point line.

However, Thompson’s last showing for the Warriors disappointed fans, as he was scoreless in an elimination game versus the Sacramento Kings, shooting 0 for 10 from the field.

Warriors remain uninterested in giving Klay Thompson $30 million

Klay Thompson may not get another hefty contract with the Golden State Warriors as he winds down his career.

According to a report by Warriors insider Marcus Thompson, Golden State will not splurge on retaining the services of Thompson amid teams showing interest in bringing him out of the team.

“Klay’s going to get a lot of money thrown at him,” Thompson said. “We know the Warriors don’t want to throw 30-40 million at him. Looking at the playoff teams, I think he might get it. I think the market for Klay is way bigger than anyone thought.”

The Warriors are looking to avoid paying the luxury tax next season after spending over $384 million in 2023–2024 only to finish 10th in the Western Conference.

Several playoff teams with hefty cap space have been rumored to be interested in Thompson, including the Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, and Oklahoma City Thunder.
