Hello everybody and welcome back to NBA Cinema! Today, we have an interesting topic to discuss regarding Joel Embiid and some recent comments he’s made. It seems like Embiid has had quite a bit to say, and some of his remarks come across as building in excuses for potential shortcomings. Let’s dive into the specifics and see what’s going on.
Recently, Embiid made comments about Team USA and other teams, highlighting the talent across the board. He mentioned players like LeBron James, noting that while they have great resumes, they may not be the players they once were. This has led some to feel like Embiid is preemptively making excuses in case Team USA doesn’t come out on top.
Ironically, LeBron has been crucial in saving Team USA in their last couple of games. However, the focus of this video is Embiid’s comments about another NBA star: Jason Tatum. Embiid seemed to throw a little shade at Tatum, implying that Tatum’s success is due to having a “super team.” Here’s what Embiid had to say about Tatum:
“Yeah, well, he’s got a super team, you know what I mean? Like if I had a super team too, I would win too. I tell him the same thing. If I go five for 20, we get blown out. You guys don’t know how much that I get when that happens.”
This is a pretty bold statement considering Tatum’s performances. For instance, in Game 7 versus the Philadelphia 76ers, Tatum dropped 51 points, leading his team to victory while Embiid struggled with his performance. Embiid went five for 18 in that game, and despite claiming to be “hobbled,” it raises questions about his consistency in big moments.
Embiid has been known to provide explanations for his performances, sometimes attributing it to injuries or other factors. In a recent discussion, he mentioned that he probably shouldn’t have come back early from an injury but wanted to play. He admitted to struggling, especially in the fourth quarter, where he felt he couldn’t perform at his best.
“When people find excuse after excuse, it ends up being a pattern. Joel, we’re going to point the finger at everybody else? Tyrese Maxey needed to take over? You fought back so hard through injury? And I’m not saying he didn’t, but that was a time when…”
It’s interesting to see what Embiid will say next, especially with players like Tyrese Maxey stepping up and proving themselves as All-Star-level players. Maxey’s performance, along with other rising stars like Haliburton and Brunson, shows that the supporting cast around Embiid is solid. In fact, some argue that Brunson has been one of the best point guards in the Eastern Conference, if not the league.
With the addition of Paul George, the 76ers have a formidable roster. So, what will be Embiid’s next excuse if things don’t go their way? It seems like the onus should be on Embiid to step up and lead his team, rather than pointing fingers elsewhere.
Let me know what you think about Joel Embiid’s comments and his tendency to make excuses. Is he right to point out these factors, or should he take more responsibility for his performances?
