All basketball lovers around the globe are eagerly tuned in today to watch the budding talents find their new homes. Yes, the 2024 NBA Draft has finally arrived. All the teams in the league would get an opportunity to add college players to their roster and watch them flourish into stars. As these youngsters enter the big stage, some current NBA players are welcoming them with their social media messages. While many have shown heartwarming gestures, an amusing one came from Memphis Grizzlies’ point guard Ja Morant.

As the Grizzlies drafted the 9th overall pick, Zach Edey, in the first round, the two-time All-Star shared a hilarious meme to welcome the young rookie. The clip showed a hilarious scene from the movie Rush Hour, where Chris Tucker opens the door to find a massively taller man. That was Morant’s way of welcoming the Canadian center because of his 7’4″ height.

Edey’s height is the same as the reigning ROTY, Victor Wembanyama’s, who is amongst the tallest players, precisely the tenth-tallest in the league. Like the Frenchman, Edey was also a phenom at Purdue University. His enormous list of accolades is proof of that.

The Grizzlies ended their disappointing season in the bottom half with a 27-55 record. With his remarkable scoring skills and dedication, Edey could hopefully impact his numbers in the following season.

During his college years, Edey showcased his passion, which pushed him to improve. However, his aim has never been to end up on the hardwood.

Zach Edey Wanted to Be Baseball Pro

Zach Edey is undoubtedly full of talent. The 22-year-old might have excelled at the hoop, but he played baseball and ice hockey, too, like a pro. Before landing in basketball, he had some other plans.

During an interview with the Journal and Courier, Edey revealed his journey onto the baseball field. Unfolding his childhood story, Edey said his parents had taken him to a baseball field and told him to try it. Unaware of their plan, young Edey gave it a shot.

To everyone’s surprise, he soon mastered the sport, and his height played a big role. Other players couldn’t match up to his batting and pitching force. However, that was not a positive thing, according to his coach. Rather, it became concerning for the safety of other kids.

Edey still didn’t give up and pursued it in high school to make it his profession. But the future had some other plans in his story. “I kind of outgrew the sport. My shoulder was kind of giving out a little bit. It wasn’t very realistic anymore,” stated the Canadian. So, he turned his focus to basketball and succeeded in impressing a large group of people with his outstanding abilities.
