Juneteenth marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. People from all backgrounds across America come together to honor this significant day. As NBA fans eagerly awaited news about how their favorite players would commemorate Juneteenth, Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo revealed his unique plans.
While many NBA players attended Kendrick Lamar’s “The Pop Out” concert to celebrate, Adebayo took a different approach. He responded to a fan’s question on X (formerly Twitter) about his Juneteenth plans, humorously writing, “Idk, probably be Black.”
The Juneteenth holiday marks the day in 1865 when enslaved black individuals in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their emancipation. Juneteenth was first observed in African American communities in the South, but it has progressively come to be recognized nationwide. Texas declared Juneteenth a state holiday in 1979, and since then, it has been observed as a holiday in 41 other states and the District of Columbia.
