Rapper Lil Wayne heaps huge praise for the Los Angeles Lakers’ new head coach, JJ Redick on the Undisputed Show.
“He’s like Kobe…”, JJ Redick compared to Michael Jordan and Lakers great ahead of huge coaching job

Kobe Bryant, JJ Redick and Michael Jordan

The Los Angeles Lakers replaced their previous head coach Darvin Ham with former NBA player JJ Redick. The Lakers interviewed many candidates before announcing Redick as their coach. Although many opinions may vary on Redick being appointed the Lakers’ HC, Lil Wayne recently shared his thoughts on the matter, showing confidence in the team’s decision.

During an appearance on the Undisputed show, Lil Wayne expressed his support for the Lakers’ decision, despite the franchise’s struggles over the past 2-3 years. Wayne believes that Lakers supporters shouldn’t be overly concerned about Redick’s lack of coaching experience.

He’s one of those…like Jordan…like I can beat you to the door type of thing. I also know about JJ is that he’s super prepared…for anything. He’s like…Kobe Bryant...He will turn that chip on his shoulder into a mountain and climb it.

He views Redick as a competitor who understands his own strengths and weaknesses. Wayne’s bold statement speaks volumes about his confidence in Redick’s ability to turn things around for the Lakers.

Redick has a good bond with Lakers’ star man LeBron James going into his new role as the head coach. This bond will also help Redick settle in quickly, as he has the Lakers’ main player’s respect in the locker room right from the get-go.

Rachel Nichols not confident about Lakers appointing JJ Redick as head coach

JJ Redick‘s appointment made him the seventh head coach in 13 years for the Lakers. Rachel Nichols does not seem confident about this and labeled it as a “gamble” on the Undisputed Show. She also discussed another trend that the Lakers franchise has seen: the swift dismissal of head coaches.

It’s such a huge gamble. Can they afford to be taking another gamble that in a year might completely blow up in their faces? They’ve done it. So, it’s pretty interesting that this hire and this chance has come at this time.

Rachel Nichols said

Nichols made a valid point since the Lakers recently fired Darvin Ham without giving him a chance to rebuild the team.

However, it remains to be seen whether this move of appointing Redick turns out to be a hit or a miss in the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season. Meanwhile, Redick will remain focused on tuning out distractions and delivering best results for his new team.
