LeBron James is currently with the USA Team, preparing for the Paris 2024 Olympics, while his son Bronny James is in the headlines for his debut game performance. Though Bronny’s draft with the Los Angeles Lakers brought much media pressure for him, his super proud dad sent a stern response to Bonny’s critics.

James sat with ESPN on Sunday ahead of the Paris Olympics, where he discussed the mental stability of his eldest son when facing criticism.

“I don’t know if people really understand Bronny. He doesn’t give a f—. He’s like the complete opposite of his dad. His dad will say something [to address the critics]. Bro does not care. Everything that’s being said about him, he really does not care,” James said.

Bronny already proved his father’s words true during his first press conference as a Lakers player. The conference brought his name into the limelight again for a lie that ultimately proved wrong following his draft.

Nevertheless, Bronny gave it little thought and appeared fearlessly in his Summer League debut game, though his performance was not spectacular.

Bronny James’ $7.9M Deal Highlights Disparity in Draft Contracts

Like Bronny James’ draft pick, his first contract with the Los Angeles Lakers also drew backlash from the fans. The 2024 55th overall pick secured a much more substantial deal than the previous 55th overall pick had. He signed a four-year contract worth $7.9 million, with $4.4 million guaranteed.

In 2019, Kyle Guy was picked 55th overall by the Sacramento Kings and received a non-guaranteed two-way contract. Similarly, Jay Scrubb, drafted by the Brooklyn Nets in 2020, also received a non-guaranteed two-way contract.

Aaron Wiggins, the 2021 55th pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Isaiah Wong, the 2023 55th pick by the Indiana Pacers, were given non-guaranteed two-way contracts.

Gui Santos, selected by the Golden State Warriors in 2022, received a $75,000 guaranteed contract, which stands out slightly from the others.
