Minnesota Timberwolves’ forward Anthony Edwards is gearing up for his second consecutive summer playing for the United States. Following his humorous entry at the Olympic camp, Edwards recently shared insights about Team USA’s clutch “alpha” player.

Star Tribune reporter Chris Hine asked Edwards who he believes is the “alpha” on Team USA when the game is on the line. Edwards confidently named Kevin Durant as his choice.

“I think Kevin Durant. He better be. That’s who I came to see,” he replied.

Hine reported that Edwards has spent a lot of time chatting with Durant. Edwards later revealed that his decision to join Team USA was heavily influenced by Durant’s presence on the team.

“Once they asked me to play and I seen that he was playing, I couldn’t say no. We’ve been talking’ the whole time. It’s dope,” Edwards added.

Alongside Edwards and Durant, Team USA boasts an impressive lineup of basketball luminaries committed to representing their country. The roster includes stars like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, Devin Booker, Kawhi Leonard, and Tyrese Haliburton, among others.

Anthony Edwards is Excited to Play Along with the Hall of Famers for Team USA

During his interview with Chris Hine, Anthony Edwards shared his mindset on playing with future Hall of Famers like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant. He expressed his excitement and readiness to adapt to whatever role is needed.

“They mentioned some guys — you might not play some games, might not play that many minutes. I don’t mind. I’m playing alongside Hall of Famers. I’m just here. If they need me, I’ll be one call away,” Edwards said.

Edwards is the first Timberwolves player to compete for Team USA in the Olympics since Kevin Love in 2012. The unique opportunity also made him only the fourth player in Timberwolves history to earn this distinction. Hence, for him, it’s all about proving his worth and fitting in alongside these basketball legends.

“I just go out there and be myself. Shoot my shots. Play defense and they got to fit in to play around me,” he added.
