Houston Texans commentator John Harris took a weird shot at Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen during the team’s preseason game against the New York Giants on Saturday.
The Texans hosted the Giants for their third preseason game at NRG Stadium. Early in the first quarter, Houston quarterback CJ Stroud hit new Texan Stefon Diggs (Josh Allen’s former teammate) on a slant for a first down.
Harris proceeded to take a shot at the Buffalo signal-caller by stating that he wasn’t sure if Allen would be able to make that same throw to Diggs:
That was Diggs’ first catch with the Texans in preseason play. In April, Buffalo traded him to the AFC South club (along with two late-round picks) for a 2025 second-round draft selection.
Houston then restructured Diggs’ contract, allowing him to test free agency in 2025. As for Josh Allen’s Bills, the Diggs trade leaves them with a mammoth dead money charge of $31.1 million for 2024.
Diggs and Allen played together in Buffalo for four years, guiding the team to four straight AFC East division titles. After the Bills had to wait 25 years between playoff wins (1995 to 2020), Diggs and Allen led the franchise to five postseason victories.
But after reaching the 2020 AFC Championship Game, the Bills suffered three straight losses in the Divisional Round. Diggs’ inconsistent playoff prediction and strained relationship with teammates and coaches ultimately forced Buffalo to part ways with their superstar wideout.
Josh Allen Has A New-Look WR Corps For 2024
The Bills traded Diggs and watched deep threat Gabe Davis leave for the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency. Allen’s new set of weapons features promising rookie Keon Coleman, former Carolina Panther and Washington Commander Curtis Samuel and two-time Super Bowl champion Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
Buffalo will kick off their 2024 season with a home contest against Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 8.
