Team USA has already earned its ticket to the semifinals with a roster filled with 12 NBA stars. Surprisingly, despite leading the Boston Celtics to their 18th championship and winning his first NBA final MVP, Jaylen Brown was snubbed from Team USA’s roster.
However, former NBA star and Team USA men’s managing director Grant Hill remains optimistic about Brown’s future with Team USA. During an appearance on Open Run with Rachel Nichols, Hill expressed his belief in Brown’s potential Olympic success.
“I’ve tried to do this the right way. I called Jaylen Brown. I’m confident he and I will sit down at some point and talk about it. He’ll be a candidate if he wants in 2028 [Olympics in Los Angeles],” Hill said.
Brown himself was frustrated with Team USA’s decision. His frustration boiled over when they again turned down the idea of adding him to the roster when Derrick White replaced Kawhi Leonard on the roster.
Grant Hill Open to Jaylen Brown Joining Team USA for the 2028 Olympics
During the interview with Rachel Nichols, Grant Hill was asked about possibly welcoming Jaylen Brown to Team USA when the Summer Games move to Los Angeles in 2028. In response to the question, the former NBA star expressed openness and optimism.
“Oh yeah. One thing I’ve learned. You can’t take anything personal in this role. And so, I haven’t personalized anything. My goal, my objective, is to win. As soon as hopefully that happens, we pivot and start looking ahead to the future,” Hill said.
For the news-breaking snub, Brown has yet to make his Olympic debut. Team USA is currently focused on securing its fifth consecutive gold medal. Their next challenge is against Team Serbia on August 8.
