The Dallas Mavericks had a difficult run against the Boston Celtics in both games of the NBA Finals series, but their star, Kyrie Irving, let the home-court fans at the TD Garden know that the series was still not over.

After facing a 98-105 loss on Sunday, when the Mavs guard was walking off to the locker room, the Celtics fan base was still booing him. Despite trailing by 2-0 in the series, Kyrie raised his hand toward the crowd, showing five fingers, indicating that the Mavs would be back for Game 5.

Kyrie’s gesture was caught on camera and soon was circulated all over the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), grabbing the attention of the NBA community, who dropped some hilarious comments under the Clutch points post.

“Yeah to lose 4-1”, a fan mockingly wrote.

“By the time he’s back there he’ll be as old as that Uncle Drew fella”, added another fan.

Someone made a meme out of it, “Kyrie when he’s finally back in Boston for Game 5 in the year 2075:”

While another fan suggested, “He needs to stop running his mouth and focus on shooting better than 30%.”

Another fan commented: “The same way he said he’d be back resigned in Boston… this is cap 😂”

Kyrie Irving Reacts to Going Down 2–0

Kyrie Irving couldn’t help the Mavs’ offense in both losses, contributing 12 and 16 points, respectively. However, he faced a similar situation in the 2016 Finals when his team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, was down by 0-2 against the Golden State Warriors. Thanks to his strong impact, the Cavs turned the tides and bagged the championship trophy.

Sharing his insight about the current scenario in Sunday’s post-game presser, Kyrie stated, “They feel very confident here. They’ve been a great team all year… Being in the Finals before, down 0-2, I’ve had a little experience in this… It is gonna be a possession by possession thing. It is gonna be the hardest thing that we’ve ever done.”

The Mavericks will return to the American Airlines Center for Game 3 and 4, where they need to aim to even the series and ultimately chase the Larry O’Brien Trophy to answer their doubters.
