The former NFL running back expressed regret and embarrassment after being taken off an aircraft in handcuffs after landing in California this past weekend. Davis, who was flying with his wife and three children, was apparently accused of some form of misconduct as he was approached by six law enforcement officials, including FBI agents, when the plane landed.
He explained in a social media post that he had “lightly tapped” a flight attendant’s arm in an attempt to get their attention after his son requested some ice. The individual is said to have shouted, “Don’t hit me,” before leaving the area.
Davis claimed he had no further interactions with the attendant but was still handcuffed and hauled off the aircraft after landing.
“I was – and remain – humiliated, embarrassed, powerless, and angry,” he wrote. “During questioning, it was rightfully determined by the agents that this flight attendant was inaccurate and the agents profusely apologized.”
United Airlines Apologizes To Terrell Davis
United Airlines has since released an official statement in which it discloses having reached out to Davis’ team to apologize while also removing the attendant from duty while the matter is reviewed.
“This is clearly not the kind of travel experience we strive to provide, and we have reached out to Mr. Davis’s team to apologize,” the airline told KDVR in a statement. “We have removed the flight attendant from duty while we closely review this matter.”
Davis demanded an investigation into the attendant, whom he accused of blatantly lying. He said he was still in shock as of Monday and had “hard conversations” with his family following the incident.
“I refuse to stand by without speaking out on this disgusting display of injustice and deplorable treatment by United Airlines,” he added.
