The Detroit Red Wings and Montreal Canadiens have both been very busy this off-season, and now they’re potentially looking at a huge swap of four players.

The Montreal Canadiens have been making smart trades for the past few years under Kent Hughes, and now, a report has revealed that they are talking to the Detroit Red Wings about a trade as both teams look to improve.

🚨 NHL Rumor Alert! 🚨 Rumors are swirling about a potential blockbuster deal between the RedWings and Habs! 🏒

The report would send Joel Armia and Jake Evans to Detroit, with the Canadiens getting back a depth piece in Justin Holl as well as an intriguing 23-year old former first-round pick in Joe Veleno, who scored 28 points in the NHL a year ago.

On paper, the deal certainly makes sense for both teams, as Detroit would get better right now while the Canadiens would get depth in Justin Holl and salary cap relief from moving the much talked about Armia contract.

Whether or not this happens no one quite knows at this point, but given that Kent Hughes and the Canadiens are still a ways away from competing at a playoff level, it’s the type of swing he has the freedom and the flexibility to make.
