Timberwolves agree to one-year deal with P.J. Dozier, report says

After a quiet first couple of days of NBA free agency, the Minnesota Timberwolves have now added two players on Wednesday.

After a quiet first couple of days of NBA free agency, the Minnesota Timberwolves have reportedly added another player.

Hours after agreeing to a deal with Joe Ingles, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the club has also agreed to a one-year deal with wing P.J. Dozier.

Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly and Dozier are familiar with each other from their time with the Denver Nuggets, where Dozier signed in 2019.

The 6-foot-6, 205-pound wing played with the Nuggets for three seasons, appearing in 97 games and averaging 6.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 19 minutes per game. He had brief stints before that with Oklahoma City and Boston but tore his ACL in 2021.

The Timberwolves actually brought him in to training camp before the 2022 season and he spent part of the year with the Iowa Wolves before joining the Sacramento Kings. He spent last season with Partizan in Serbia and averaged 8.8 points, 2.9 rebound, 3.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game across 54 contests. He also shot 50.4% from the field and 32% from three.

He’s spent time as a point guard, shooting guard and small forward over his career and now adds depth to Minnesota’s roster.

With the signing, Minnesota now projects to have one open standard roster spot and two open two-way slots, which Daishen Nix and Jaylen Clark are likely the favorites to fill. The Wolves could also opt to leave the standard roster spot open with a hefty luxury tax bill already expected next season.

Earlier Wednesday, the Timberwolves introduced their draft picks to the media.
