After retiring in 2000, Charles Barkley found success as an analyst to bring his knowledge and personality to broadcasting. Recently, he decided to continue his post-playing career with TNT.

However, not all NBA players have made a smooth transition to television, a fact that often irritates Barkley. During his appearance on Paul George’s Podcast P, Barkley slammed players who freeze up when invited to NBA TV.

“I’ll tell you what’s really funny. We have a studio, NBA TV. We always bring in guys we think are going to be great on TV. They might even go to the competition. They get on TV and f**king freeze up. That’s the sh*t that drives us crazy. NBA TV is on seven nights a week. I love getting brothers on television; I love it,” Barkley said.

The former NBA star stated the rarity and value of TV jobs for retired athletes while sharing his frustration when players fail to perform.

“There’s not many jobs you can do when you retire. If you get lucky, get one of these TV jobs, and you’re set up for life. So we bring in dudes all the time. And we sit there like, ‘What the f**k?’ You’re so funny; you’re cool to be around. Why are you nervous on television?” he added.

Charles Barkley, a staple of the iconic “Inside the NBA” show since 2000, recently shocked fans by announcing his plan to retire from television broadcasting after the 2024-2025 NBA season. However, he later reconsidered and decided to continue his career with TNT.

Barkley’s tenure with TNT spans more than two decades. His exceptional work has earned him five Sports Emmys in the “Outstanding Studio Analyst” category.
