The ongoing debate over who deserves the title of GOAT in basketball between Michael Jordan and LeBron James seems never-ending. Recently, a stat comparison went viral, featuring James’ supremacy in dominating in his early career over Jordan.
However, former NBA star Stephon Marbury has decided to weigh in with a surprising comparison that could end the discussion once and for all. He shared a compelling stat highlighting Michael Jordan’s stunning achievements during his time with the Chicago Bulls, captioning, “Shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath as MJ.”
The stat comparison features Jordan’s dominance in the NBA, with the basketball legend securing 10 scoring titles throughout his career. Each season listed in the stat revealed Jordan’s scoring averages, ranging from 28.8 points per game in 1997-98 to an astonishing 37.1 points per game in 1986-87.
While James has had an extraordinary career, filled with NBA titles and numerous accolades, Marbury’s focus was on Jordan’s unmatched scoring prowess. In this aspect, Jordan simply stands alone.
Stephon Marbury Claims LeBron James’ Olympic MVP Was A Mistake
Apart from comparing James with Jordan, former NBA star Marbury was also critical of accepting James as the Paris Olympics MVP. In a now-deleted Instagram post, Marbury clarified that he believed Stephen Curry deserved the honor instead.
“They gave the MVP to the wrong player. Maybe they called out the wrong name by accident. I think we need to try to rewind the moment when [Curry] displayed himself as the best shooter who ever touched the ball. In international ball, if you can’t shoot, you can’t have the ball at the end of the game,” Marbury wrote.
Both Curry and James delivered outstanding performances on the international stage, helping Team USA secure the gold medal. Finally, LeBron’s steady performance earned him the MVP. However, the ongoing debate on the rightful Olympic MVP seems to be getting heated with each passing day.
