The San Antonio Spurs firmly believe that they have their point guard of the future to pair alongside Victor Wembanyama. This comes in the form of No. 4 overall pick Stephon Castle, who is expected to be a force to be reckoned with in the league in the not-so-distant future.

At this point, however, the Spurs will need to wait a bit after an unfortunate injury derailed the 19-year-old’s preseason campaign.

Spurs insider Tom Osborn of the San Antonio Express-News reported on Sunday that the team has decided to pull Castle out for the remainder of the NBA Summer League. This is after the 6-foot-6 point guard sustained a wrist injury during their last game:

“Castle is out for the remainder of Summer League after suffering a right wrist sprain when he fell in Saturday’s win over Portland, Spurs say. It’s a minor injury, but Spurs aren’t taking any chances with the fourth overall pick,” Osborn wrote.

This is a shame considering how impressive Castle has been in the Summer League. On Saturday against the Blazers, the former UConn star logged 22 points on 8-of-21 shooting, to go along with five rebounds, four assists, a steal, and two triples as he helped lead San Antonio to an 83-77 win.

According to the report, the injury is considered minor, which means that there should be no cause for concern here. The Spurs are merely erring on the side of caution on their prized guard — as they should.
