Russell Westbrook has officially closed the chapter on his tenure with the Los Angeles Clippers. After a tumultuous two-season stint with the franchise, the star point guard has joined the Denver Nuggets after being traded to and waived by the Utah Jazz.
The 35-year-old took to social media and shared a heartfelt message to express his gratitude to the Clippers organization, fans, and teammates.
“Thank you to Mr. Ballmer and the entire Clipper Organization for the opportunity,” he wrote. “Clipper Nation, thank you! had a lot of fun with you all, playing in the city love in front of my family and friends”, Westbrook wrote in an Instagram post.
Westbrook also thanked his fans for their support during his time in Los Angeles. The nine-time All-Star acknowledged that fans’ support keeps him motivated, calling them the “most loyal and amazing fans in sports.”
“To ALL of MY fans! You guys don’t know how much your support means to me. Y’all keep me motivated and energized. I’ve got the most loyal and amazing fans in sports”, the statement further read.
A New Chapter for Russell Westbrook
Notably, Westbrook joined the Clippers after the Utah Jazz bought out his contract following his trade from the LA Lakers in 2023.
In the 2023-24 season with the Clippers, Russell Westbrook played 68 games, averaging 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.
In the previous 2022-23 season, Westbrook played 21 games for the Clippers, averaging 15.8 points. He also averaged 4.9 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game.
The move to Denver marks a fresh start for Westbrook, who will be hoping to form a formidable partnership with Nikola Jokic.
As Westbrook embarks on a new chapter with the Nuggets, fans will be eager to see how he fits into the team’s system and if he can bring back his MVP form.
