Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa blocked his brother’s move to a certain SEC side a few years ago.

Taulia Tagovailoa initially followed his older brother to Alabama but spent most of his college career at Maryland.

He joined the Crimson Tide after Tua’s exploits brought the program a national championship in 2017 but did not get much playing time after falling behind both the Fins QB and Mac Jones on the depth chart, something which would influence his decision to join the Terrapins.

Taulia spent four years in Maryland, setting a Big Ten record for passing yards in his last college season. But, prior to the campaign, he considered declaring for the NFL Draft and reportedly turned down a mega $1.5 million offer to sign with Auburn.

Tua Tagovailoa Wasn’t About To Watch His Brother Move To Bama’s Rivals

According to an upcoming book, ‘The Price: What It Takes to Win in College Football’s Era of Chaos,’ Taulia’s father, Galu, encouraged the latter to take the Tigers’ offer and return to the SEC, but Tua stepped in and forbade him.

The Crimson Tide and Tigers are fierce NCAA rivals, and Tua Tagovailoa was having none of it.

“We’re an Alabama family. You’re not going to Auburn,” he told his younger brother, with CBS revealing as much, having published an excerpt from the aforementioned book.

The book also explains that Maryland coach Mike Locksley and athletic director Damon Evans devised a six-figure NIL offer to keep Taulia with the program, though they probably have Tua to thank for the final decision.

Meanwhile, Taulia went undrafted this year but was offered a tryout by the Seattle Seahawks, who did not end up signing him. He joined the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats in June.
