The network has undergone some massive changes in recent months and most recently laid off two of its biggest names in Robert Griffin III and Sam Ponder.
According to John Ourand of Puck.news, another massive change could be coming as the show, ‘The Sports Reporters,’ might return in a few weeks. Ourand reports that The Worldwide Leader in Sports is looking to have an episode hosted by Jeremy Schaap ready to air in the next few weeks, with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman also part of the panel.
The show won’t have a regular time slot, however, as it will be produced for youTube.
“ESPN will resuscitate The Sports Reporters, prepping an episode hosted by Jeremy Schaap with NFL play-by-players, like Joe Buck and Al Michaels,” Ourand tweeted on Monday. “It’ll be produced for ESPN’s YouTube channel with segments available via linear, digital, social.”
Fans Will Welcome ‘The Sports Reporters’ Back
The show should receive a great welcome-back reception as it was a favorite among fans for several years, having launched in 1988 and surviving until 2017. It was originally hosted by Gary Thorn, who was replaced by Dick Schaap.
Schaap sadly passed away in 2001, leaving the show to John Saunders, who himself passed away in 2016.
Once it returns, multiple ESPN personalities, including Stephen A. Smith, Michael Wilbon, and John Feinstein, are expected to appear on ‘The Sports Reporters.’
Of course, whether it actually comes back remains to be seen. But it appears that is the plan.
