The Washington Commanders have announced a massive uniform change ahead of the upcoming 2024 NFL season.

The team revealed on Tuesday that their gold pants will be back this year, noting it will be used in various uni combos during the campaign.

“Gold pants are officially BACK in our rotation,” they announced via X/Twitter.

Their official website adds, “As a nod to the franchise’s history, the Washington Commanders are bringing back the signature gold pants and will include them in their uniform combinations this season.

“The decision was made after hearing from several fans who wanted to see the iconic look return to the team. The games for which we will see players wear the gold pants have not been determined.”

The pants are set to come back for the first time since 2018. Washington players last wore gold bottoms during a week 17 fixture against NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles.

A Brief History Of The Washington Commanders’ Gold Pants

Gold pants have been part of Washington’s uniform since they left Boston in 1937. The team had some of its best campaigns in them, winning NFL championships that year, as well as in 1942.

They ditched gold after the 1918 season, playing in either burgundy or white for the next 31 years, though there were exceptions.

The pants returned full-time in 2020 and stuck around until 2018.

The team has now opted to bring them back for 2024, a season they’re heading into with a new general manager and head coach.
