New York Jets superstar edge rusher Haason Reddick has decided to treat himself to a vacation amid his mysterious absence from the team.

Haason Reddick, whom the Jets acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this offseason, did not attend mandatory minicamp last week. It’s widely assumed that Reddick is holding out and awaiting a new deal.

While nobody knows exactly when he may return to the Jets, we at least know of the Pro Bowler’s whereabouts now. On his Instagram story, Reddick revealed that he is on vacation in Tokyo, Japan:

Haason Reddick is entering the final season of a three-year, $45 million deal he signed with the Eagles in 2022 free agency. He was traded to the Jets for a conditional 2026 third-round pick that could upgrade to a second-rounder, depending on his playing time.

Per Zach Braziller of the New York Post, Jets head coach Robert Sale expressed no concern about Reddick’s absence last Tuesday:

“I appreciated the dialogue. He’s in a really good place mentally, working his tail off like we already know, but he’s choosing to sit out, so it’s unexcused. I’m not concerned about Haason Reddick. I understand everything that’s happening, but at the same time I know that when it comes time to play football, he’s gonna be ready to play football.”

The Jets fittingly landed Reddick as a replacement for star pass-rusher Bryece Huff, who wound up leaving to sign with the Eagles in free agency. Reddick has tallied double-digit sacks in four consecutive seasons, including a career-high 16 in 2022.

For his career, Haason Reddick has 58 sacks, 19 pass breakups, 16 forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries.

Haason Reddick & Jets Open Season At 49ers

Reddick and the New York Jets will kick off their 2024 season with a road contest against the defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium in a “Monday Night Football” clash.

Given the lengthy rivalry between Aaron Rodgers and his boyhood team, there’s plenty of buzz around this game. Rodgers faced the 49ers four times during the postseason while he was with the Green Bay Packers, and San Fran won each meeting.

After visiting San Fran, the Jets will head to Music City to visit the Tennessee Titans.
