The Toronto Maple Leafs may end up keeping star forward Mitch Marner after all, potentially ending, for now, months of speculation over the winger’s future with the team.

Marner, who has been the subject of consistent trade rumors for the past few months with reports of the team looking to move on from the star, is now being reported as potentially staying put in Toronto, but for the long-term as well.

According to Paul Bissonnette of the popular Hockey podcast, ‘Spittin Chiclets’, Marner may be returning to Toronto, and extending his contract with the team also.

Bissonnette says the Leafs are currently in the process of extension talks with the star.

Rumors still persist about Marner’s availability. David Pagnotta of ‘The Fourth Period’ reported that the Leafs are preparing potential trade talks to teams to move Marner.

The forward has a no-move clause, and can control what team he’d move to if he were to be traded, or not. Marner has expressed his desire to remain in Toronto and continue with the Leafs next season. Marner is in the final year of his current contract, currently making just over $10.9M for the 2024-25 season.

Marner, 27, had 26 goals, 59 assists & 85 points in 69 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2023-24 season.
