Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver was projected to be one of the top 10 receivers in the NFL for years after the former University of Alabama star was drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft with the 12th overall pick.
Unfortunately, Ruggs’ career came to a screeching halt after he made a horrible mistake on the morning of November 2, 2021, after he decided to get in his car while under the influence and drive 156 miles per hour.
Ruggs would end up in a crash, taking the life of an innocent young woman named Tina Tintor and her dog after her car was hit and burst into flames, slowly killing the two beautiful souls trapped inside the vehicle.
It has been nearly three years since that fateful day, and Ruggs’ former coach at Alabama, Nick Saban, has finally commented on the ordeal that his former player found himself in, saying, “He had his friends that could have told him” that he shouldn’t have been driving.
Nick Saban Says That Henry Ruggs’ Friends Failed Him
Many fans were not happy with the response, with some pointing out that it was obvious that his friends could have helped him, while others pointed out that “at the end of the day, you’re responsible for your own actions.”
Saban was the coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide for 17 years, creating one of the most prominent college football dynasties before retiring in 2023 after accumulating a total college record of 292 wins, 71 losses, and one time.
While it is unfortunate that the whole situation happened, one can only hope that Ruggs has learned from this tragic event. He is serving up to ten years at a prison camp in northern Nevada.
