The last thing the New York Jets need is bad press as they get set for an all-important 2024 season.
Unfortunately, they got just that after finding out that cornerback Tae Hayes was arrested early Sunday morning in Alabama and charged with marijuana possession.
Yahoo Sports reports that Hayes was arrested in Morgan County at 3:46 a.m. and released at 5:07 a.m. on a $300 bond.
The charge is a second-degree misdemeanor.
The Jets released the following statement to The Post, “We are aware of the situation, and we will refrain from further comment, as it is a pending legal matter.”
Hayes only played in one game for the Jets last season. He saw action on 13 defensive snaps and ten on special teams and made two tackles.
So far in his career, Hayes has spent time with nine different NFL teams and played in the regular season for six of them after he went undrafted out of Appalachian State in 2019.
For his career, Hayes has made 18 tackles with two passes defended, one fumble recovery, and no interceptions in 14 games.
New York Jets Looking To Solidify Themselves At Super Bowl Contenders With Return of Aaron Rodgers
Ahead of last season, the New York Jets were viewed as legitimate Super Bowl contenders after they traded for Aaron Rodgers.
Unfortunately, he tore his Achilles in his first game of the year on Sept. 11, 2023, and would not return all year.
The Jets understand that Super Bowl expectations will hover over the organization for the second consecutive summer because of Rodgers’ presence.
Now that he is healthy, the team will need to work together to make it happen.
