A new report confirmed that the Buffalo Sabres are set to buy out Jeff Skinner’s contract.
In breaking news, it was announced on X that the Sabres are expected to get rid of Jeff Skinner before the end of his contract:
“BREAKING: #LetsGoBuffalo is expected to buy out the remaining 3 years on Jeff Skinner’s contract, per @CMDeDominicis.”
The Athletic‘s Matthew Fairburn wrote a paper about the financial implications of buying out Skinner’s contract. He highlighted the fact that Skinner is set to receive $22 million in salary for the rest of his contract, but a buyout would only cost $14.67 million to happen.

Skinner has been an important part of the team for the past six seasons, scoring 291 points in 427 games. He had the best season of his career in 2022-23, scoring 82 points in 79 games.
He struggled to maintain the same level for the 2023-24 season. He still managed to tally 46 points but couldn’t have the same impact for the Sabres that he had in the previous season.
