With all four selections in a recent NBA Mock Draft, the San Antonio Spurs drafted four backcourt players.
NBA Mock Draft season is here, which means the San Antonio Spurs are at the center of most media coverage. With four total picks in the 2024 Draft and two in the top ten, the Spurs are poised to add talent around Victor Wembanyama and make a run at the postseason as soon as next year.
In a recently published mock draft by Bleacher Report, the Spurs select Stephon Castle and Devin Carter with their two lottery picks. Those two guards worked out against each other over the weekend for the Spurs, showcasing that the Silver and Black are high on both prospects. Inside the Spurs has covered both players extensively, but the mocked second-round picks for the Spurs also stand out.
Both players are expected to start their careers in the G-League, although both have high NBA upside.
Christie shot 39.1 percent from deep in his lone season with the Golden Gophers and established himself as a sweet-shooting 6-6 guard. He lacks the athleticism to play in the paint but can handle the ball and stands to be a spot-up shooting threat.
On the other hand, Johnson is not an elite shooter (yet) and does not have NBA strength, but projects to be a solid athlete who can create space off the dribble and can handle the ball, perhaps a bit better than Christie.
If the Spurs hold onto both of their second-round picks, expect the Austin Spurs to welcome two new additions to their roster next season, but the Spurs will have talent stashed throughout their developmental programs.
