Philadelphia Flyers 2023 first round draft pick Matvei Michkov before game between New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Philadelphia Flyers prospect Matvei Michkov has been named the best U20 player in Russia, as voted on by “leading reporters, commentators and bloggers.”

Michkov narrowly beat out Montreal Canadiens prospect Ivan Demidov for the top spot.

Michkov totaled 114 points, while Demidov received 100 points for second place.

Demidov is expected to spend the upcoming 2024-25 season in the KHL, while Michkov will be integrated into the Flyers’ team.

His arrival has caused waves of excitement throughout the Flyers fandom ever since he first touched down stateside in July.

“I think he’s gonna pull all of you guys right out of your seats, alone with the other fans at the Wells Fargo Center,” Flyers Director of Player Development Riley Armstrong said during the team’s development camp. “I don’t know how long it’ll take for him to adjust to the league, but once he figures it out and understands his linemates and stuff like that, he’s gonna be a pretty special player.”
