So about those chances of actually scoring a pair…

To buy the shoes, you’ll need to create and/or sign in to your free Nike Member account. Nike will use a “Line Checkout” system, which is only available to Nike Members.

The way Nike describes it, Line Checkout gives Nike Members an equal chance to purchase high-demand items. Nike will process your order if your chosen size and color is available. If it sells out before that, Nike will let you know.

It pays to be prepared. Nike urges shoppers to update their Nike Member profile with the correct payment and shipping information. Also, be sure to verify your cell number, which Nike uses as an added layer of security to help keep Line Checkout fair. Then make sure you’re signed in and ready to pounce the moment that alien footwear beams down to earth.

Nike notes wait times vary based on demand. Also, limit one item per Nike Member.

The new Wembanyama shoe goes all in on the alien vibe with what Nike calls “a galactic mix of colors and a space themed Nike-swoosh,” plus the image of an alien head on the heel and the inspiring phrase, “Be unique every day” across the outsoles.

As for what’s under the hood of that otherworldly design, the Wemby PE promises to baby your feet with cushioning in the core and Zoom Air spring in the forefoot, the better to pull off those gonzo stop-and-pop moves in your personal highlight reel. The shoe also sports full-length foam for extra cushioning and stabilization, plus a molded insole for “a potent combination of soft responsiveness,” per the Nike press release.

Nike likens the “Wembanyama” to a lightweight, modern running shoe. The minimal upper keeps it light, while the engineered mesh supports the toe, heel and midfoot with reinforced layers for extra stability without the extra weight. It also ups the ankle support with a padded, mid-high collar.
