Expect a spectacular television event on August 2 of next year, but do not expect good sight lines from the outfield.

Major League Baseball announced Friday that a pro baseball game is coming to the infield of Bristol Motor Speedway, confirming reports from earlier this week. Renderings released with the news show that the game will take place at a temporary ballpark with a relatively conventional shape and odd viewing lines.

By opting for a standard shape set between the track’s parallel pit lanes and infield walls, organizers have built a fairly typical ball park shape inside of the track. Dimensions have not been announced, but the choice to place a bullpen in the far corner of left field rather than in the open area behind center field suggests that MLB does not have to significantly compromise outfield dimensions to make the event work.

One rendering, set behind home plate, shows a spectacular visual for players and fans sitting inside temporary infield seating over the infield. Another, set in the outfield, shows that fans sitting in the track’s standard, stadium-style seating will not be so lucky. Those sitting behind the outfield will have the entire standard track surface between themselves and live play, while the group sitting behind the first base line will be separated from the action by both the track itself and the temporary grandstands built for fans sitting in the infield.

Venue capacity is not listed, but the track hosted at least 130,000 for a college football game in 2016. Renderings show some seats added inside the temporary stadium, but covered seats on the portion of the track not being used for the ballpark indicate that total capacity will probably be much smaller on game day. Even with so many covered seats, the track should still be one of the biggest stadiums to ever host Major League Baseball.

The game is scheduled for August 2, 2025. It will be contested between the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds, two teams currently in the thick of a National League wild-card hunt this season. The two games immediately beforehand will take place as normal home games in Cincinnati, and the game at Bristol will be held on a Saturday with an off day afterward in case the event needs to be pushed by weather.
