New NFL Kickoff Rules in action (via NFL/X)
The league brought in the kickoff rules from the XFL to increase kick returns and lessen injuries. We now finally have our first look at the new rules in action, and some fans find them very different, to say the least.
The new rule, the Dynamic Kickoff, has players on the receiving team line up on their 35-yard line and kick on the 40. The players are not allowed to move until the ball is received, which, in theory, will allow for more ‘Dynamic’ kick returns.
Reactions to the video posted on the NFL X page, taken from the Hall of Fame game played between the Bears and the Texans, are mixed. Some fans love the new format, while others hate it. Some fans are in the middle.
NFL Are Confused About The New Dynamic Kickoff Rules
Some NFL fans criticized the new rule, stating that it’s a touchdown if a returner can slip through a crack, while another fan called it a “trash rule.”
Another NFL fan commented, praising the Dynamic Kickoff, “It’s so surreal seeing the XFL Kickoff in the NFL.” He further added a note that a lot of fans agree with, saying, “It’s going to take a while for teams and fans to get accustomed to it”
While it will take fans a while to get used to the new rule, it should happen quickly. The regular season begins in September, so it will be interesting to see how the Dynamic Kickoff affects teams’ meaningful play.
